Filmen 'The Apprentice' er en fiktionsfilm om den amerikanske ekspræsident Donald Trumps unge år og forholdet til den skruppelløse advokat Roy Cohn.

Her følger man Trump på sin rejse fra ung og usikker mand med en kontrollerende far til det forretningsimperium, bygget på et tvivlsomt grundlag, som han var kendt for inden præsidentembedet.

Filmen er instrueret af den dansk-iranske Ali Abbasi, der tidligere har haft stor succes med filmene Holy Spider og Grænse.
